The American Trakehner Association (ATA),
Canadian Sport Horse (CSHA) and Oldenburg NA/ISR approved stallion
Advocate *Ps* by Graditz *E*, out of Arabeske by Abdullah *Pg*E*, died
July 14 of the infirmities of old age at home in his pasture at the
age of 24. He competed successfully in the show ring through
Open/Grand Prix jumpers with German rider Helmut Schrant who now
resides in the Chicago, IL, area.
Together Advocate and Helmut earned the CSHA Gold Premium and the ATA
Performance Silver awards and also earned several ATA
Horse-Of-the-Year Awards, the Midwest Trakehners Overall
Horse-of-the-Year Award and a number of year-end titles in both the
Indiana and Illinois Hunter Jumper Associations. Advocate and Helmut
were invited to train with Olympic jumper riders George Morris and Ann
Kursinski in Florida in the winter of 1998, where they competed in the
Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington.
As a young stallion Advocate also competed in
the dressage ring with Klaus Biesenthal and Rosalind Kinstler through
Second Level and won championships at notable shows such as the
American Concours CDI Show on the Florida Circuit and the Lake Erie
College Dressage Show series in the Midwest. To round out his
versatile career he also competed early in his career in the hunter
ring with USET rider Patty Johnson-Stoval and evented through Training
level with Klaus Biesenthal.
From 1994 through 2001, Advocate appeared
often in a number of horse fairs and expos including the Equine
Affaire, Midwest Horse Fair, Hoosier Horse Fair, Michigan Stallion
Expo and the American Trakehner Association National Convention, where
he won the ATA Jumper Stake in 1993. He performed in the Pfizer
Fantasia evening program at Equine Affaire several times. A frequent
model for artistic works, he was featured in a calendar, in a number
of photography exhibits and was the subject of a bronze sculpture by
New York artist Leslie Spano.
Advocate has offspring winning at rated shows
in the U.S. and Canada in all of the Olympic disciplines. His get have
won numerous breed and performance show championships including the
Grand Champion Sport Horse Mare and the Reserve Grand Champion Sport
Horse Stallion at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto, Canada, in 2004;
the Reserve Best Young Horse at the Motor City A-2 Rated Hunter Show
in Detroit; the Grand Champion of Show at the Midwest Dressage Classic
and many others. He was listed by the United States Dressage
Federation on the Top Ten Dam’s Sire List for a number of years. He
also has one Arab-Trakehner daughter in Ohio who is a certified Search
and Rescue Horse and another purebred daughter who is a member of the
Porter County, IN, Sheriff’s Posse.
Advocate was owned and is very sadly missed
by Allen and Kimberley MacMillan and family, Loon Creek Enterprises,
Huntington, IN, where he stood for breeding from 1994 until his death
in July. Advocate was bred by John Kinder, Haywagon Farm, St.
Clairsville, OH, and was approved for breeding by the ATA in Columbus,
OH, in 1987. He was approved by the ISR/Oldenburg NA and the CSHA in
1994. Before being purchased by the MacMillans he stood briefly in
Elkhart, IN, at Haine’s Heritage Farm and in Eastern Michigan.
To date Advocate has 125 ATA-registered
offspring, including one ATA-approved son to date, Malachi (out of
Mallorka by Gunnar), and 20 ATA Official Stud Book and Preliminary
Stud Book daughters, as well as a number of ISR/Oldenburg NA,
Oldenburg Verband and CSHA registered offspring and one daughter in
the KWPN/NA (Dutch Warmblood) Main Mare Book.

Advocate was a successful
Grand Prix Jumper with the immortal Abdullah as a Grandisre!
Advocate's dam,
Arabeske OSB-A-M315, by Abdullah OSB-A-S116
(by Donauwind) represents the Pregel Line.
Pregel's children inherit his beautiful movement, honest
character, pleasant disposition, as well as a particular
talent for jumping. The most important of the Pregel sons
is the bay stallion Donauwind OSB-E-S190. Donauwind
already has many approved sons, and over 40 approved
daughters to his credit. Donauwind's most valuable
characteristics are his conformation and type, his
pleasant and very relaxed temperament, and his
extraordinary gaits. In addition, he demonstrates great
jumping talent. One of his more famous sons is the ATA
approved stallion Abdullah. Arabeske is out of the
mare Arianna OSB-A-M137, by Handel (by Carajan),
representing the Pilger Line. Carajan has
approximately 20 approved sons and over 80 daughters to
his name. Most of Carjan's children possess his
characteristics: the proud appearance, good size and
frame, solid conformation, good gaits, best health,
willingness to work and jumping talent.
Advocate's sire
Graditz *E*
1975 Bay Trakehner stallion
OSB-E-S172, height 165 cm (16.1H), girth 78.6", bone 8.25".
Bred by I & H Hencke, Schloss Ricklingen, FRG; Owned by Legacy
Trakehner Stud.
Premium stallion at 1977 Neumünster approvals, Graditz was
performance tested in 1978 at Medingen. The German Stallion Book
provides the following remarks:
"Extremely beautiful in all parts. Finely chiseled head, good
neck, best overall top line, somewhat light in bone, good hocks,
first-class mover, especially at the trot."
Graditz was also approved by the Hannoverian Verband.
He was imported to the United States in 1980 and had the distinction
of siring seven ATA-approved stallions. His stallion sons include
ADVOCATE, DICHTER, DONNERKEIL, IBSEN, LAUSBUB (gelded), and PENNANT.
His progeny earned him the designation of ATA "Elite." Graditz died
in 2001, leaving at the time of his death 5 approved stallion sons,
2 approved stallion grandsons, and 44 stud book daughters. His son
TZIGANE was later approved by the ATA.
Advocate's
sire,
Graditz OSB-E-S172, was named Premium Stallion at
the 1977 approvals in Germany. The German stallion book
describes him as follows: "Extremely beautiful all
over; finely chiseled head, good neck, best possible top
line, a bit light in bone, good hocks, first-class mover,
especially at the trot." Graditz's sire, Rondo
(by Schabernack out of Rositten by Sterndeuter),
is characterized as follows: "Excellent model of a
breeding stallion with good Trakehner and stallion type;
noble, expressive head, very good neck, good shoulder,
saddle position and top line, harmonious body proportions,
four good legs, covering much ground in all paces."
Rondo is known as a producer of excellent jumping horses.
He is by Schabernack, sire of 10 approved sons.
Rondo's dam, Rositten 3559, by Sterndeuter (an
impressive light-bay stallion by Stern), represents
the Stern Line. Individuals from this line are known for
pleasant temperaments, good gaits, and consistent type.
Graditz's dam, Giesela II by Traumulus, is
from the mare family of Gitta, which is very
prominent in West Germany today. Of Giesela II's 13
foals, Gasparone (foaled in 1967) by Halali, was shown in
the highest levels of dressage. Giesela II's son,
Graditz, also carries the breed characteristics of his
dam.
This fabulous stallion
produced an Olympic Gold Medal Champion De Sjiem. Aram was kind in
character, knew his job and wonderful to be around. You couldn't ask
for a better temperament. We miss him but he will live on in the many
foals born in the USA. His frozen semen is highly successful.
Aram is an all around breeding stallion. He is proven to be a
producer of world champions and was listed as the #4 jumper
breeding sire with the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses
(WBFSH) in 2001.
Aram sired the 2000 Olympic
jumping gold medal champion De Sjiem.
He has sired 5 approved sons
around the world. His approved Belgian Warmblood son Galant was
standing in the US and competing in dressage at 4th level and
schooling at Prix St George. He has had 3 Dutch approved sons,
KWPN Faram, KWPN Graham and NRPS Adamo. In 1992 Aram's son Graham
won the National Stallion Competition as a 4 year old. In Sweden
he has an approved son Fontaine who was exported to the US.
Aram went to Sweden as an
improvement sire and now he comes to the US to improve our
breeding. He is fully approved Swedish and produce full Swedish
papers bred to Thoroughbred and Swedish mares.
Aram was 2nd place at the 1986/87
National Stallion Competition in Dressage. Aram's son Kondor (Aram
x Ulft) is currently performing a Grand Prix Dressage in Belgium.
to see the Dressage Daily article on Kondor. Aram also has another
son Hayko (Aram x Nicolai) who is also competing at Grand Prix
dressage in Holland.
In 1988 Aram jumped faultlessly
in six of the seven National Stallion Competitions. At the finals
he showed his spectacular way of jumping and finished in 3rd
place.
